The Miccosukee
February 2025 As you drive around Florida, the impact of
the Miccosukee can be seen throughout all quadrants of the State. While
driving south on U.S. 41, you pass many signs saying “Indian Village”,
then after the turn to the east on your way to Miami or the Keys, you
pass the town of Miccosukee. These are the physical reminders of the
Miccosukee Tribe, dating back centuries. The Miccosukee Tribe pre-dates
Columbus.

The Seminole Wars 1817-1858
January 2025
Every day, whether we remember it or not, we
live in an historic area. The entire state of Florida was the stage for
the Seminole Wars which, ultimately, had a significant impact upon the
future of Florida. As you read through this description of the Seminole
Wars, you will recognize many of the names of people and places that we
encounter every day.
Having recently read Florida’s Seminole Wars 1817-1858 by Joe

Florida History & Chronology This is an incomplete study of Florida
history. The main purpose has been to learn about the early Spanish
explorers and their impact upon Florida’s history and culture, as well
as a study of the Seminole Wars. Different books which I have read had
differing accounts and dates. Even though there may be contradictory
information, the overall concept and flavor remains intact. Other interesting information that I
uncovered along the way has also been included. However, the history of
Marco Island has been intentionally left out, because of the other
booklet I wrote tracing Marco Island’s history and development. Only
early Marco Island history is discussed.
The original version was dated June 24, 2020.
It was revised as of October 14, 2021, revised again April 19, 2022,
and October 4, 2024.
